STUDENTS
Fall Semester
•This is a good time to complete the College Selection Questionnaire. Once you have information about your preferences, wants and needs, you can begin identifying colleges that match those characteristics. This will help you put together a first college list, especially if you want to visit colleges during Spring and other breaks.
Spring Semester
• Continue researching colleges and gathering information about what you like and don’t like. (If you haven’t already, put together your first college list or update what you have.)
• As you visit colleges, update your college list.
• Before the end of the school year, take your college list to your high school counselor for feedback and advice.
Summer After Junior Year
• This is the time to refine and finish your college list. At the latest, have it done before you start senior year.
• While it’s useful to visit colleges during the school year, visiting colleges in the summer is better than not visiting them at all.
PARENTS
Avoid the temptation of making your student’s college admissions a full-time job. Do everything you can to maintain a good relationship with your son or daughter. He or she really needs your help and/or support right now.
