To help you develop your college list, we’re going to follow Annie Beck (not her real name) as she developed her college list. Annie was a senor at a public high school in California, with A GPA of 3.9 and SAT combined test scores of 1350. From now on, anything in orange font will be about Annie.
After completing the College Selection Questionnaire, Annie came up with this summary of her preferences:
a. Physical location (landscape and weather): West and Northeast, possibly Midwest (prefer beaches, mountains, lakes and rivers, NO DESERT, moderate and cool weather. Four Seasons is okay.)
b. Cities, nearby communities, kind of college: a small to medium sized liberal arts or single-sex college in or near San Francisco, Portland, Boston, or in a small town, maybe rural area
c. Student body size: a size range of about 2000-5000; want to avoid huge campuses
d. General campus atmosphere and personality: intellectually oriented, collaborative, outdoorsy, down-to-earth, friendly people, tight knit community of students, artsy
e. Curriculum and academics: Few course requirements, and student created majors; cooperative climate, small, discussion classes, supportive professors, excellent record for students getting into graduate school
f. Students: ethnically and geographically diverse, rally smart students, supportive of LGBT, liberal, health and fitness conscious
g. Campus environment and facilities: very safe, beautiful, well-kept campus, quiet-moderately paced lifestyle, excellent housing, near an airport, most students live on campus, healthy, good food, nice neighborhood.
